THE SONG IN TISHMAL'S HEART
Through the power of her Native language, an Indigenous girl gains the courage to play her Native American flute for her third grade Show&Tell.

My contemporary PB manuscript was selected as one of the recipients for the 2024 Walter Dean Myers Grant from We Need Diverse Books.
It’s based on my own Show&Tell experience with my father, and the story incorporates my Native language.
But, at this time, there is only one person who is considered fluent in chamtéela (our language). That’s a big reason why I’ve been so inspired to learn chamtéela and write stories like this.
The Walter Dean Myers Grant will help me with the research process. Once I ensure my manuscript accurately represents our language and culture, I’ll begin to query agents! Yay!
Native voices matter! Thank you to everyone who has supported mine. I am forever grateful for the writing community as I work towards my dream of becoming a published author.
